Meet the Crew | Erin Magee

We like to think of our 1,400+ crew as one big family.  Each member is unique, and their skills, experience, backgrounds, cultures, nationalities, and personalities contribute to the rich social fabric of our company.  In our ‘Meet the Crew’ profile series, we’re introducing you to a diverse bunch of Kinetic IT employees, exploring the different roles they fill across the company and how they make a difference to our team, our customers, our industry, and our community. In this edition, we chat with Erin Magee.

Meet Erin Magee

Erin Magee is one of our talented Participation Coordinators. Having grown in the ICT space herself, Erin brings experience and knowledge to the journey many students might be scared to embark on. She has a superpower when it comes to encouraging others to reach for their dreams, especially when they doubt they are capable.

Erin Magee - "I love that Kinetic IT provides life changing opportunities to local people."

1. What is your role?

I’m the WA Participation Coordinator in Kinetic IT’s Workforce Planning & Participation team. I’m responsible for coordinating our community and industry engagements such as our work with P-Tech, WiTWA Techtrails, and the Kinetic IT traineeship program. I’m also a member of our Kinetic IT Women in IT committee.

2. How long have you been with the company?

I have been working with Kinetic IT for almost 6 years!

3. What has been your career journey so far?

I joined Kinetic IT as a service desk technician working at the Department of Education in January 2016. Back then I had no idea where my journey with Kinetic IT was going to take me. Through mentorship and support, I found I had a knack for project management and moved into the project management team, working on large infrastructure projects for schools across WA. During that time, I was often putting my hand up for community engagement initiatives until it became my full-time job! I now use my project management skills to set up and manage great community initiatives.

4. What do you love most about your role?

I get to empower people to make positive changes in their life and potentially consider a career they may have previously been intimidated by. I work with career switchers, high school students and university graduates to help remove barriers to entering the ICT industry.

5. What’s something people might not know about you?

I have far too many hobbies that I’m always trying to make time for. I love to dance, make music, experiment with sewing, read… You name it, I’ve likely picked it up as a hobby!

6. What do you love most about working for Kinetic IT?

I love that Kinetic IT provides life-changing opportunities to local people. I had no idea what I was capable of and with the support and encouragement of the amazing crew at Kinetic IT, I have been able to achieve things I didn’t think were possible.

7. Have you ever been to a BSides Event?

This year will be my first BSides event! I have been following the event for a couple of years but never had the chance to attend.

8. What are you most looking forward to for this year’s event?

I’m looking forward to meeting new people and learning a lot about the cyber security industry in Perth.
