Offensive RFID/NFC

Shain’s presentation on Offensive RFID/NFC explores short-range wireless technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Near Field Communication (NFC). He’ll discuss the past and current offensive uses of these technologies, along with new emerging uses such as biological NFC implants and their offensive potential.

Short-range wireless technologies are everywhere. Statistics show that total NFC usage grew by 82% between 2018 and 2020, and it is estimated that 20% of the world’s population has access to NFC. Novel uses of short-range wireless technologies, such as biological RFID and NFC implants are also becoming commonplace. This begs the question: What are the security implications, and can they be used offensively?

Uncover some of the new and emerging potential malicious uses of these well-known technologies with Shain at this year’s BSides event.

“What are the security implications for novel uses of short-range wireless technology?”
